Jeff Agoos Overdrive

Hey dudes, so I put in an application for 4 tickets to USA vs Slovenia. Probably a bit of a longshot.

Happy New Year!

South Africa Itinerary

The world cup games that we are planning to see are as follows:
June 12 1:30 PM at Port Elizabeth - South Korea vs Greece
June 17 1:30 PM at Joburg - South Korea vs Argentina
June 18 4:00 PM at Joburg - USA vs Slovenia
June 22 8:30 PM at Durban - South Korea vs Durban
The tentative plan is to rent an apartment in Muizenburg near Capetown from around June 3 through June 10. Everyone can look for the best flight deal and arrive anytime during that period. We will pickup a rental car in capetown. While we are there we can climb table mountain, visit the cape of good hope nature preserve, sail to Robben Island, visit the wine country town of Stellenbosch and tour the city bowl.

On June 10 we drive along the garden route and stay for the night in Knysna.

On June 11 we will continue along the garden route to Port Elizabeth. The Tsitsikamma National Park looks pretty interesting and is along the way. We could stay for the night at Jeffrey's Bay known as the home of the perfect wave.

June 12 - Watch the Koreans and Greeks play soccer at Port Elizabeth.

June 13 - Visit Addo Elephant Park. Travel toward Johannesburg.

June 14 - Travel to some game park within a couple hour drive to Johannesburg.

June 15 - Safari or maybe drive around a game park.

June 16 - Safari or maybe a drive around Kruger Park would be really cool.

June 17 - See the Koreans play Argentina in Johannesburg.

June 18 - Watch the USA team play Slovenia in Johannesburg.

June 19 - Send Cori and Brent home so the real fun can begin.

June 20 -

June 21 - Drive to Durban. See the Drakensburg Mountains.

June 22 - See South Korea play Nigeria in Durban.

June 23 - Return to Johannesburg. Stop for a hike in the Royal Natal National Park.

June 24 - Return rental car and fly home.

Your comments, opinions and suggestions are welcome.

Washington to Capetown then Joburg to Washington

Now I'm nervous, Lisa, is this a post or a comment? And I have no funny photos with which to beg forgiveness, and even if I did I wouldn't know how to post them.
An awesome find this morning through a multicity kayak search. We can fly from DC to CAPE TOWN and then back out of Johannesburg to DC for $1800 something, departing June 3 returning June 19. This may not work for those of you who are returning later, but before you commit to a flight to Joburg, just check and see if the multicity flight, the one that gets you all the way to Capetown, is not that much more, saving you the hassle of booking a separate regional flight.
Dad should Brent and I just book that flight to get the ball rolling (Brent's heartbreak over no Paris notwithstanding)? It's DC to Kennedy to Joburg to Capetown, and then on the way back it's direct from Joburg to Dulles.

Quick housekeeping note..

It might be easier to comment on individual blog posts when you want to reply directly to it. This post should probably be a comment instead of a post. I effed up. To make up for this, I shall post a picture of a cat doing something silly.

Flexible Date Searches at Kayak.com

When you guys are looking for flights, it's worth signing up to use the "flexible search" function at www.kayak.com. Just takes a second and permits you to see the cost of your flight three days before and three days after your preferred date. In many instances the difference one day makes is enormous.
Carry on.
P.S. There is no stopping Larry.

Sure why not?

We could always sell them if we can't use them. I was looking at Air France flights to Joburg from Paris -- the have a nonstop flight every day and an extra one on, I believe, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays (I might be getting those days wrong). If we go the Paris route, for Brent and me, right now the return flight to Paris is prohibitively expensive on the 19th of June but cheap(ish) on the 18th, and if we took that flight on the 18th we could not go to the US game (right Aaron?). But the flight situation is in such a state of flux I don't think this counsels against trying to get US tickets.
Dad, I have found that if you go on to the individual airlines' websites, like Air France, you sometimes find better things than show up on kayak or travelocity or whatever. Air France right now is advertising so-called affordable World Cup flights on its homepage.
